Norwich City warned off Brighton winger Bennett

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom has told Norwich City that winger Elliott Bennett is not for sale.

After Saturday's win over Peterborough, Seagulls boss Gus Poyet stated the club had received an enquiry from Norwich about the 22-year-old.

He told BBC Sussex: "There's interest, we can't deny that."

And Bloom told the club website: "There has been interest from Norwich, but we do not want Elliott to go anywhere and we have made that clear to them."

Bennett, who scored in his side's 3-1 win over Posh at the weekend, joined from Wolves in the summer of 2008 and has gone on to feature 76 times, scoring 13 goals.

Bloom added: "Elliott is a key part of the squad, which is why we recently gave him a three-and-a-half-year contract.

"He has been superb for the club since he came here and we are not surprised he is attracting interest from a club in a higher division."

And Poyet has made it clear he does not want any of his key players to leave the Withdean Stadium this January.

"We don't want to sell. Our team is in a very good position and I always say I hope we can get better together," he said.

"If someone leaves, that's football. We need to be realistic, sometimes you get scouts from clubs watching.

"There were six or seven Championship teams [watching against Peterborough] and I'm sure they're looking at some of our players.

"I would like to go to bed tonight and wake up on 1 February with the same players."
