Brighton manager Gus Poyet has made his first signing of the January transfer window by bringing in experienced Spanish defender Inigo Calderon.
After allowing Jake Wright to go out on loan last week to Oxford until the end of the season, Poyet has now brought in former Alaves captain Calderon.
The right-back, who left Alaves in the summer, has been at Brighton on trial.
And the free agent, who turned 28 on Tuesday, has now signed a deal with the Seagulls until the end of the season.
Calderon, who also spent three years at Alicante, made over 250 appearances in Spain, mostly in his two spells at Alaves.
Poyet will continue to monitor another potential foreign signing, Frenchman Sebastien Carole in training.
Carole, 27, who spent the second half of last term with the Seagulls, has spent the first half of this season at Tranmere Rovers - but has made just five starts.
Brighton currently stand 20th in League One, kept out of the relegation zone purely on having scored more goals than Leyton Orient.
