Brighton defender Adam Virgo is determined to keep his place in the Albion side after making a rare start in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Torquay.

Virgo began just two games under boss Gus Poyet and has been replaced as club captain by Andrew Crofts.

But the 26-year-old told BBC Sussex: "I've had it harder than anybody losing my place and the captaincy.

"Hopefully I have given him [Poyet] a question to answer. I'm keen to stay and show the team what I can do."

Virgo added: "It was nice to get a start, I've had very few since the new manager came in but as he said before it's about making an impression when you do get a chance.

"Hopefully I've shown to him and other people that I want to stay and fight for my place."
