Dyke hails Scott and loan system

Greg Dyke
Dyke has been Brentford chairman since January 2006

Brentford chairman Greg Dyke says that manager Andy Scott's achievement in winning promotion to League One cannot be underestimated.

The Bees secured the League Two title with a 3-1 win at Darlington last week.

Dyke told BBC London 94.9: "Andy Scott has done a great job in keeping us going despite losing all his strikers and half his midfield.

"Luckily we made money available to borrow players who have all played a great part in getting us up."

Brentford currently have five players who belong to other clubs and Dyke added: "We've had two loan players all season in the goalkeeper Ben Hamer and centre-back Alan Bennett, who's been captain for the last few weeks, and they've been brilliant for us.

"Our goalkeeper has had a great season and so have our centre-backs."

Of his manager, he concluded: "When you think he came to us to be Terry Butcher's assistant. When Butcher left we were going to find a new manager and we just asked him to take over for a few games until we found one.

"Ten games later we were still unbeaten and decided we could stop looking."
