Bradford City manager Peter Taylor is to leave the club after Saturday's League Two clash with Stockport.

The former England Under-21 boss has been in charge at Valley Parade for just over a year after replacing Stuart McCall in February 2010.

Taylor admitted that he was convinced it was time to leave during Tuesday's 1-0 defeat by Chesterfield.

"I think the crowd's reaction made up my mind that it is the best time to go," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I have made a decision that Saturday is my last game. Bradford City is more important than any individual, without a doubt. The history of this football club is fantastic and we're in a dodgy situation.

"The last thing I need is for supporters that have lost patience with me to then interfere with the players and their performance because Saturday is very important and so are the remaining games.

"Because of the season we've had, supporters are impatient and I feel I won't be of help anymore."

The 58-year-old signed a one-year extension to his contract in April 2010, which would have expired at the end of this season.

The Bantams are currently 21st in League Two, six points above the relegation zone.

Bradford were 16th when Taylor took charge and he leaves them five places lower in the table just over a year later.

The Bantams have won just once in their last nine matches.

The former Hull, Leicester and Wycombe boss rejected the chance to join Alan Pardew at Newcastle United as assistant manager in order to see through his plans at Valley Parade.

Last month Taylor, who had one game in caretaker charge of the full England team, told BBC Radio Leeds that he would not be driven out of the League Two strugglers.

"I'm not a fool, I can tell that I'm probably not the most popular manager Bradford City's ever had," he said.

"I'm not prepared to walk away, I'm prepared to take this difficult job head on."

The former England international also had spells in charge of Southend, Gillingham, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Stevenage.
