Huddersfield utility forward David Faiumu has signed a new three-year contract with the Super League club. The 27-year-old former New Zealand international will stay with the Giants until the end of 2013 season. Faiumu told the club website: "We have genuine chances of winning silverware now and in the future. "The team is strong and we now have lots of really good young kids pushing through, which gives us good depth to the squad." He added: "Nathan [Brown] and the coaches have brought some good footy out of me and I can still get better working here and bring some experience to the younger lads." After securing the services of the club's 2010 Players' Player of the Year, Giants head coach Nathan Brown said: "Fuey is very well respected amongst everyone at the club and is a very important part of our team on and off the field. | The Giants is where his heart is and the deal was relatively simple to conclude Giants managing director Richard Thewlis |
"For the Giants to keep improving, it was important that Fuey was retained by the club going forward. He has played a big part in the way this club has developed in the past two years." Faiumu joined the Giants from NRL side North Queensland Cowboys in 2008 and scored four tries in 32 appearances last season. Giants managing director Richard Thewlis added: "Fuey is a real fans' favourite. There is a genuine buzz around the crowd when he has the ball as I guess no one really knows which way he will go and where he will offload to and that excites people. "Fuey told me he wanted to stay longer and am sure could have had his pick of many clubs but it's the Giants where his heart is and the deal was relatively simple to conclude. It also gives us further stability with a proven international performer in the claret and gold for the foreseeable future."
