Thomson scored one goal in six games during his month at Bournemouth
Southampton head coach Mark Wotte says a final decision needs to be made soon on whether midfielder Jake Thomson returns to Bournemouth on loan.
Thomson, 19, spent a month at Dean Court, but an extension was blocked by the Football League last month.
Wotte told BBC Solent: "If he doesn't play tomorrow [on Tuesday], he will play for our reserves on Wednesday and then can't play for Bournemouth."
Currently all Bournemouth transfers must be ratified by league officials.
"Jake has always been in my plans because he was on an instant recall and now the situation at Bournemouth is not very clear and it's now time for a decision," Wotte added.
Meanwhile, the transfer embargo on Bournemouth looks no closer to being lifted.
Cherries manager Eddie Howe has had no indication from the board that the situation on transfers or loans will change in the near future.
Howe said: "No news, I am asking the questions but at the moment it's not forthcoming. It's out of my control, I can't bring anyone in at the moment and that's it, I'll just get on with it."
