Holloway urges transfer caution

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has asked supporters to be patient as he tries to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

Holloway, 46, has been linked with a number of transfers, including Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam, but said he will be cautious about who he signs.

"I've got a skeleton squad at the moment," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"But I'm going to take my time and get people on trial first because I want to see what they can add to us."

Bristol-born Holloway admitted that although finances will play a part in his transfer dealings, a player's desire to join the Championship club is equally important.

I know what I need to add but I'm not going to add them now because there's no-one jumping out at me

"I don't want anybody sat at home thinking 'why haven't we signed anybody? What's happened with DJ Campbell? What's happened with Charlie Adam?'. Unfortunately, though, they don't belong to us," he said.

"We tried to sign DJ but his agent made it clear he's not going to reduce the money he's currently on.

"The chairman's still trying to sort something out with Glasgow Rangers regarding Charlie. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen, but we can't agree a fee with them at the moment because they rate him quite highly."

And despite receiving numerous calls from agents regarding possible signings, Holloway insists he will not be forced into making rash decisions.

"I know what I need but I'm not going to add them now because there's no-one jumping out at me," he said.

"I'm going to assess who I've got in my squad and watch them training in pre-season.

"I believe players will become available towards the end of pre-season because other clubs will have too many players and can't afford to keep them on their wage bill."
