O'Donovan has made eight starts for Blackpool since his January move
Blackpool's fight against relegation has suffered a setback after winger Roy O'Donovan underwent an operation to remove his appendix.
The Republic of Ireland B man, who is on loan from Sunderland, complained of feeling unwell prior to Tuesday's game at Sheffield United.
The 23-year-old was admitted to a local hospital after being examined by the Blades doctor.
Graeme Owens took his place in the team with David Fox promoted to substitute.
It is not clear at this stage how long the former Cork City player will be sidelined.
He has played nine games for the Lancashire club since his loan switch in January.
Meanwhile, striker Brett Ormerod is expected to be fit for Saturday's match against relegation rivals Barnsley after missing the 2-2 draw through illness.
