Bath City manager Adie Britton says his side are doing better than he had anticipated so far this season.

Bath came back from two goals down at Southport on Saturday to win 3-2, lifting them into 14th place in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Asked whether 23 points in 19 games had exceeded his expectations, Britton told BBC Radio Bristol: "Yes, it has.

"Let's get it straight: our ambitions this season are not to go down and if we do that it will be fantastic."

Britton continued: "To have that many points on the board is great and it gives us confidence to go out and play our football."

Bath, who won promotion from Blue Square Bet South last season, are still part-time and have spent much of the season to date in the relegation zone.

We're doing OK, we're getting points on the board, we're capable of scoring goals and it gives us opportunities

But seven points in the last three matches has seen them climb into mid-table.

"It allows us to change things a bit and actually go out and improve the side," said Britton.

"We're not up against it, with our backs to the wall - in those circumstances sometimes you don't make quite the right decisions.

"Here, we can just stand back a bit and say we're doing OK, we're getting points on the board, we're capable of scoring goals and it gives us opportunities."
