Barrow can repeat 1990 FA Trophy success - Tony Keen

The FA Trophy

Barrow director Tony Keen has called on the current squad to replicate the success of the club's 1990 FA Trophy winning team this season.

The Bluebirds are through to the last four of the competition for the first time in 20 years, when Ray Wilkie's side were winners at Wembley.

"We've lived on the 1990 era for 20 years and we're rewriting the history books," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"This is a new era, a new team and it's just massive for the club."

Barrow were 3-0 winners against Leek Town in the 1990 final, with a brace from Kenny Gordon and a Colin Cowperthwaite header sealing the first major silverware in the club's history.

Meanwhile the run to the semi-finals under the management duo of Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan has seen them depose three fellow Blue Square Premier sides in Kettering, Gateshead and now York, in addition to Blue Square South side Maidenhead United.

Wembley would puts those building blocks in place to get to the next level

Salisbury are the opponents standing between Barrow and a first trip to the new Wembley - a prospect which Keen believes would boost both the coffers and the spirits at the club.

"Wembley would put those building blocks in place to get to the next level that we're talking about, we want stability in this league," he said.

"The priority for the season is to retain our conference Premier status, but the chance to go to Wembley would build on what we've been building on during the last 10 years."
