Bayliss hopeful Brown will stay

Brown has made over 337 league and cup appearances

Barrow co-manager Dave Bayliss hopes to persuade striker David Brown to remain at Holker Street after Saturday's impressive debut against Kidderminster.

Brown, 30, signed for the Bluebirds on a non-contract basis and Bayliss is keen to snap up the former Hull City forward on a longer-term deal.

"It's something that we'll have to speak to him about, he fits into how we play," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"Hopefully he's enjoyed it and if he wants to stay we'd be delighted."

Brown began his career with Manchester United as a trainee and lists Hull, Torquay United and Chester City among his former clubs, making 337 first-team appearances and scoring 76 goals prior to joining Barrow.

Meanwhile, Saturday's 1-0 win against Harriers ended Barrow's four-match losing run, although with fixtures against Burton Albion and Crawley Town looming, Bayliss remains cautious as to suggestions of a turn-around in fortunes.

"They're all big games and you don't get an easy ride in this league," he said.

"It's only one game. We could be back in it on Tuesday, you take any wins that you get at this level when you can.

"If we show the dogged desire we saw on Saturday then we're not going to be far away. We don't expect miracles, we just expect the players to put the shirt on and show a bit of pride."
