Oxford win now history - Bayliss

Dave Bayliss
Bayliss says his side must prove their worth in the high division

Barrow AFC co-manager Dave Bayliss has told his players they must forget Friday's 3-0 win against Oxford, and focus on Tuesday's trip to Altrincham.

The win was one of the biggest shocks of the opening weekend but the Bluebirds chief has urged his side to maintain focus on long-term goals.

"Our job is to try and keep them grounded," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We can lose the next 44 games and be nowhere so we've got to make sure we approach games in the right way."

Bayliss and co-manager Darren Sheridan led the club into the Blue Square Premier after a dramatic rise from the lower reaches of Blue Square North last season.

Previously the duo had expressed a desire to give last year's team a chance in the higher division, but Bayliss says he is determined to remain ambitious and is adamant they will make changes to the side if needs be.

"We are quite happy with what we've got but we do need to strengthen," Bayliss said.

"If the right player comes along, we'll go to the chairman and I'm sure he'll back us in whatever we want to do."
