Robins has been placed on gardening leave by Rotherham

Barnsley have had to delay naming Mark Robins as their new manager after failing to agree a compensation package with Rotherham United.

The Oakwell club had hoped to unveil Robins, 39, on Monday but called off a planned news conference.

A statement on the club website said: "Barnsley are still in protracted negotiations with Rotherham United regarding a compensation package.

"These negotiations have not been concluded at present."

It continued: "Barnsley hope to be in a position to unveil its new manager very soon."

Robins is expected to be joined at Barnsley by his Rotherham backroom team of assistant manager John Breckin, first-team coach Steve Taylor, goalkeeping coach Simon Tracy and fitness coach Nick Daws.

And the appointments of all four appear ever closer after the club confirmed assistant manager Ryan Kidd, coach Kelham O'Hanlon and sports scientist Dave Kelly had all left Oakwell.
