Barnsley director Barry Taylor says the club are looking for a talented young manager who is already in work to succeed Simon Davey as boss.
Taylor told BBC Radio Sheffield: "If a person is doing well in his job, hopefully we can get that talent and use it at Barnsley Football Club."
Rotherham United's Mark Robins and MK Dons boss Paul Ince are thought to be on a shortlist of 20 candidates.
But Taylor would only confirm: "We are looking for a talented young manager."
Davey left Oakwell following Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by Reading after two-and-a-half years in charge.
And Taylor said he felt the time was right for a change.
"I think we made the right decision at the time to do it," said Taylor. "We had to do it because we were going nowhere.

"Simon's future didn't rest on one game but it was just how it dropped on Saturday. It just didn't feel good."
But Taylor distanced the club with speculation linking former Portsmouth boss Tony Adams to the job.
"We have never thought about Tony Adams," he added.
"I'm not saying who is on the list, especially people who are presently working for other clubs.
"We've got a list of 20 names and we hope we can make an appointment very soon.
"We are looking at talented young managers who have experienced managerial success."
