Aberdeen had hoped to persuade Ross to stay longer at Pittodrie
Aberdeen say that Maurice Ross has rejected their offer of extending his short-term stay beyond January.
The 28-year-old joined the Dons in October after being released by Turkish club Kocaelispor in the summer.
Manager Mark McGhee said: "I always hoped that he might change his mind or that he might be persuaded to stay.
"But Maurice had remained very determined to seek his fortune and his fame elsewhere. It looks like he's going to go to China."
Ross, who has 13 Scotland caps, began his career with Rangers before spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves, Millwall and Viking Stavanger before moving to Turkish football.
He has made seven appearances for the Dons and helped them defeat Hearts 2-0 in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
"Maurice has done a good job for us while he's been here," said McGhee.
