Former Rangers and Scotland full-back Maurice Ross has agreed a contract with Aberdeen until January.

The 28-year-old will officially become a Dons player once international clearance is received by the Scottish Premier League club.

Ross had been training with Aberdeen after being released by Turkish club Kocaelispor in the summer.

And he impressed at right-back in Tuesday's 1-0 closed-doors friendly win over Dundee at Glebe Park.

However, manager Mark McGhee had already indicated his desire to sign the versatile defender, who has 13 caps.

"He came for a week to train and he has done really well and I'll be speaking with him on Monday about staying a bit longer," said McGhee at the weekend.

"We've a view to signing him until Christmas or the end of the season. I feel he would be a good addition."

On leaving Rangers in 2005, Ross had spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Millwall, joining Viking Stavanger in 2007 before heading to Turkey.

McGhee is short of defensive options following injuries to Zander Diamond, Davide Grassi and Jerel Ifil.
