Stamp appeal a non-starter
Phil Stamp is dismissed by referee Willie Young
Phil Stamp is dismissed by referee Willie Young
Hearts midfielder Phil Stamp has been told he has no grounds to appeal against the red card shown to him in the Edinburgh derby with Hibernian on Sunday.

Stamp was shown a second yellow card in injury time for over-celebrating his winning goal.

An appeal against the sending-off was mooted, but the Scottish Football Association has stressed that that is a non-starter.

Drew Herbertson, the SFA's head of disciplinary affairs, said an appeal could only be considered if a dismissal is the result of a straight red card.

Herbertson believes Stamp's behaviour left referee Willie Young no choice but to dismiss Stamp.

"The referee takes into account all circumstances pertaining to the incident and obviously he thought Stamp had gone beyond the bounds of acceptable behaviour," said Herbertson.

"His actions created a reaction from the crowd and players have to be responsible in these matters.

"There can be a knock-on effect from the crowd and that was experienced yesterday (Sunday)."
