Rangers have not lost on their last 10 visits to Dens Park and arrive for Saturday's early kick-off on a high. They were superb in sweeping aside an admittedly lacklustre Kilmarnock 6-1 at Ibrox last weekend and lead the Scottish Premier League table after going seven games unbeaten since losing to Viktoria Zizkov in the Uefa Cup. Jim Duffy's Dundee produced an excellent result of their own in defeating Hearts 2-1 at Tynecastle. They have plenty of talent to trouble Rangers, but consistency is their downfall and they are likely to be on the wrong side of a narrow defeat. Prediction: Away win.
Kilmarnock have to bounce back from their 6-1 drubbing at Ibrox, but who better to do it against than a side who have not beaten them in their last 18 meetings? United have travelled to Rugby Park nine times since their last victory but will take some heart from recording their first win under caretaker boss Paul Hegarty. Even so, the narrow CIS Cup win away to Second Division Airdrie United - Killie's conquerors in the previous round - came at the end of six straight league games without a win. Killie have the same dismal record and the match has all the makings of a stalemate. Prediction: Draw.
Livingston v Dunfermline Athletic Dunfermline lost 4-1 to Celtic last weekend, but the scoreline did not reflect their share of possession. They remain the best of the rest after the Old Firm but face a side recapturing the form that allowed them to claim that mantle at the end of last season. The boost of defeating Sturm Graz in the second leg of their Uefa Cup tie has inspired Jim Leishman's men to four games without defeat. Signs are that they will make that five with a share of the spoils at the City Ground. Prediction: Draw.
Partick Thistle v Motherwell The 5-1 drubbing by Livingston last weekend means that Motherwell have gone six league games without a win since their defeat of Celtic. Thistle picked up a draw away at Tannadice on Saturday to follow their CIS Cup defeat of Dundee. But they are starting to pick up injuries that will stretch their meagre resources and they might again have to settle for a point. Prediction: Draw.
Hibernian v Heart of Midlothian (kick off 1500 GMT Sunday, live on BBC One Scotland) Hibernian stretched their run of league victories to five as they bounced back from CIS Cup defeat by Rangers to edge a win at Pittodrie. They will be hoping to gain revenge for that 5-1 hammering at Tynecastle in the opening Edinburgh derby of the season in August. Hearts have gone three away games without defeat but will be disappointed to have lost at home to Dundee last weekend. The loss of striker Mark de Vries through injury will seriously hamper their chances. Prediction: Home win.
Celtic v Aberdeen (kick off 1500 GMT Sunday) Reigning champions Celtic struggled before overcoming Blackburn Rovers on Thursday. But a Uefa Cup hangover appears to be the flu-stricken Dons' only hopes of emerging with even a point on Sunday. Aberdeen have suffered 15 straight defeats at Celtic Park and have already been on the wrong end of a 4-0 thumping at Pittodrie from Martin O'Neill's side this season. Confidence will have also been dented by last weekend's defeat at home to Hibernian. Prediction: Home win. |
