Caballero hits deserved equaliser
Hearts' Gary Wales opens the scoring
Gary Wales loops a shot over the Dundee defence
Dundee 1-1 Hearts

Dundee and Hearts shared the points in a keenly contested match at Dens Park.

Hearts striker Gary Wales gave his side an undeserved half-time lead .

But Fabian Caballero struck a second-half equaliser to share the spoils.

Dundee carved out a great opportunity in the opening minute.

Juan Sara latched onto a reverse pass from strike-partner Fabian Caballero, but couldn't shake off the attentions of Steven Pressley.

Summer signing Nacho Novo was unlucky in the 5th minute when he found himself clear through on the angle of Niemi's goal.

But the Spaniard hooked the ball wide of the far post.

Dundee enjoyed much of the attacking play in the opening stages.

New Dundee signing Jonay Hernandez was looking impressive and he almost set up the opening goal for Sara.

The former Real Madrid player whipped in a cross from the left-hand side but the Argentinian headed past the post with Antti Niemi well beaten.

But, despite being under pressure for much of the first half, it was Hearts who opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.

Steven Boyack whipped in a free-kick from the right and Gary Wales's managed to deflect the ball over the head of Barry Smith into the net.

Dundee spurned an excellent chance to equalise only a minute later but Sara couldn't latch onto Georgi Nemsadze's through ball.

Dundee continued to press and Niemi parried a Sara shot from eight yards round the post.

Hearts were unlucky not to double their lead in the 47th minute.

Dundee wasted another opportunity in the 63rd minute and once again Juan Sara was responsible.

Novo skipped past the Hearts defence and played the Argentine striker a perfect ball along the six-yard line.

However, with just Niemi to beat Sara tapped the ball weakly back to the Hearts goalkeeper.

The home side were not to be denied, however, and they equalised in the 65th minute through Fabian Caballero.

He latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Gavin Rae and drew Niemi out of his goal before coolly slotting the ball past him into the bottom corner.

Caballero could have snatched a late goal for Dundee, in almost identical fashion as he netted the equaliser.

However, this time the Hearts defence were not caught as flat-footed and they were able to get back and cover after the Argentine raced through onto another through ball from Nemsadze.
