Daryl Fordyce scores five goals as Glentoran cruise to an opening-day victory over Lisburn Distillery
Daryl Fordyce surely secured his future at Glentoran after hammering five goals in the opening-day Carling Premiership rout of Lisburn Distillery.
Gary Browne hit the Glens woodwork early on but transfer-listed Fordyce fired the visitors ahead on 21 minutes.
Ciaran Martyn doubled Glentoran's advantage on 26 minutes and Fordyce made it 3-0 on 44 minutes.
Fordyce's penalty completed his hat-trick and he added two further goals before Scott Davidson's late reply.
Distillery included summer signings Andy Hunter and Gary Liggett while Neal Gawley was in the Glentoran starting line-up after his move from the Whites.
Former Glens player Browne almost put Distillery ahead in the ninth minute as he hit the woodwork with a fierce drive.
However, Glentoran gradually began to boss proceedings and Fordyce struck them ahead in the 21st minute with a close-range volley to the roof of the net.
Glentoran doubled their advantage five minutes later as Martyn stabbed home from inside the six-yard box after the Whites had failed to clear their lines.
The contest was over a minute before the break as Fordyce lashed a glorious shot to the net from long-range.
Fordyce completed his hat-trick three minutes into the second half as he slotted a penalty after former Glens player Andy Kilmartin had fouled Gawley.
The Glens increased their lead to 5-0 on 57 minutes as Fordyce nodded home an Andrew Waterworth cross.
And Fordyce wasn't finished as he stroked in his fifth goal of the afternoon in the 66th minute.
Milk Cup star from last week Scott Davidson pulled a goal back for Distillery 14 minutes from time but it was little consolation for a well-beaten Whites side.
"I always wanted to stay, work hard and regain my place," Fordyce told the BBC after the game.
