Glentoran manager Scott Young has stunned local football by placing five top players on the transfer list and releasing another three.

Gary Hamilton, Andy Waterworth, Daryl Fordyce, Richard Clarke and Shane McCabe have been listed by Young.

Michael Halliday, Kyle Neill and Dean Fitzgerald have been released after they were not offered new contracts.

Young promised that he would make changes at the club although trimming the wage bill is another factor.

The new Glens boss hinted at a clearout at the Oval following Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Cliftonville.

"The time has come for changes and there are going to be changes," Young said at the weekend.

"It is not good enough and it is going to take a couple of seasons to get this right.

"Next season you will see players who are fit and playing for the badge because that has not happened this season.

"There have to consequences for players' performances. It's up to me address things and I am going to address things.

"I want a team which, first and foremost, has pride in their team-mates and pride in the badge, but from what I've seen in the last couple of weeks we don't have that at this moment in time."

It is a brave move by Young, who was appointed manager last month in a one-year deal.
