Ciaran Martyn joins Glentoran's bid to retain the league title
Glentoran have pulled off a major transfer coup by signing midfielder Ciaran Martyn from Derry City.
The 29-year-old, who joined City from UCD in 2002, has been a long-term target for Oval boss Alan McDonald.
Martyn had a loan spell with Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK in 2007 when Pat Fenlon was manager at the Brandywell.
The Glens were already over budget in terms of playing staff before Martyn's arrival so it is expected that there will also be departures from the Oval.
Martyn follows Peter Hutton in moving from Derry to the Irish League.
Former City captain Hutton has signed for Cliftonville until the end of the season.
The Candystripes, who moved into administration in November, have been expelled from the remainder of this season's Setanta Sports Cup.
