Stephen Kenny voiced the concerns of players over the financial crisis

Derry City chairman Pat McDaid wants the Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland to help ease the anger of players at the club.

City boss Stephen Kenny said players are "absolutely not happy" as a result of the club's financial problems.

McDaid has discussed the issue with PFAI official Stephen McGuinness.

"We are trying to formulate a strategy to keep us right and the players right - we want to use Stephen in a mediation capacity," said McDaid.

Kenny also said that players expected wages last week but were not get paid.

Eight Derry players will be out of contract at the end of the season and McDaid admits there is no guarantee that new deals will be offered.

McDaid added: "We are not in a position to offer contract extensions at the minute as we don't know if we are going to be in Europe, for example.

"There are various other factors in our budget that are far from clear so we are not prepared to renew contracts if we can't afford to do it.

"I was very surprised to read comments at the weekend about players not receiving wages. There was no agreement, no promises to pay wages last week.

"We are experiencing grave difficulties at present and are carrying a deficit of three weeks wages with our employees but we hope to resolve that.

"The main thing is to return to a budget that takes into account the climate we are dealing in, we need to do that as a matter of urgency and that's what we are doing."
