New stand for Brandywell stadium

The existing stadium is to undergo a major refurbishment

The Brandywell stadium is to get a state-of-the-art stand as part of a major refurbishment of Derry City's ground.

The stand and other improvements are to be built on the Lone Moor Road side of the ground.

The chairman of Derry City, Pat McDaid, said he hoped the work would be completed by 2012.

"The ground is in bad need of repair, and this was highlighted once again when we were in Europe this year."

"We have already applied for funding along with the council, and this has been sanctioned.

"We're looking at a new state-of-the-art stand, and other improvements including catering facilities and changing room facilities," he said.
