Drogheda Utd 0-3 Derry City

Mark Farren
Mark Farren was in top form in the league encounter

Mark Farren's second-half treble gave Derry a League of Ireland Premier Division victory over the basement club at United Park on Friday night.

The striker broke the deadlock with a 48th minute header and doubled the lead four minutes later.

Farren completed his hat-trick in injury-time as City ended a run of four league games without a win.

Derry remain third and five points behind leaders Bohemians, who hammered Dundalk 5-0 at Dalymount Park.

City defender Peter Hutton was forced off at half-time with a shoulder injury.

His replacement James McClean set up the opener with his cross headed in by Farren.

Farren beat the offside trap before firing in the second goal and the forward blasted into the roof of the net in added time to seal the three points.

Second-placed Cork stay two points above Derry after a 1-0 home win over Sligo Rovers.

Elsewhere, Galway United beat St Pat's Athletic 2-1 and Bray Wanderers claimed a 1-0 victory at Shamrock Rovers.
