Derry's Sammy Morrow battles for possession with Richie Ryan
League of Ireland Premier Division leaders Derry City suffered their first defeat of the season as Rafael Cretaro hit an 89th-minute winner for Sligo.
As Derry pressed for a late winner, Cretaro pounced on a howler by Clive Delaney to fire past Gerard Doherty.
Romauld Boco put Sligo ahead on 39 minutes but Gareth McGlynn levelled within a minute.
Derry dominated possession and had penalty claims turned down although Sligo had chances on the break.
Boco had an early chance for Sligo but Doherty made a decent save.
Delaney headed against the Sligo woodwork on 25 minutes after a Derry corner.
Former Derry player Owen Morrison set up Boco for his opening goal with the shot taking a slight deflection off Mark McChrystal.
Derry were on terms within a minute with McGlynn sweeping the ball past Sligo keeper Richard Brush after Morrow's run.
Morrow felt he should have been earned a penalty in the 27th minute after a challenge by Sligo defender Danny Ventre.
Cretaro should have put Sligo ahead on the hour but he headed wide from six yards out.
Derry had two penalty shouts turned down in a minute with claims that Gavin Peers had handled a Thomas Stewart cross and that Delaney had been fouled seconds later.
As Derry pressed, Sligo were content to hit on the break and Doherty had to move smartly to deny Conor O'Grady while Richie Ryan also hit the Derry crossbar.
A draw seemed on the cards as the clock ticked down but Cretaro intercepted a Delaney pass and ran unchallenged to beat the Derry goalkeeper.
