Niall McGinn slides the ball under Pa Doyle for his first goal
Sammy Morrow struck a hat-trick as City hammered the minnows to claim a fourth straight Eircom League Cup triumph.
The striker fired in a 15th minute opener and Niall McGinn slotted home a second before Danny Furlong pulled one back for the hosts at Ferrycarrig Park.
Kevin Derry's superb 25-yard shot into the top corner was the highlight of the final and further goals from Morrow and McGinn made it 5-1 at the break.
Morrow completed his treble with a header from a 70th minute corner.
City quickly took control against the First Division strugglers and they made their dominance count with five first-half goals.
Morrow netted from a tight angle to set City on their way and the impressive McGinn burst into the area before sliding the ball under keeper Pa Doyle to make it 2-0 on 19 minutes.
Furlong gave Wexford hope with a low finish past Gerard Doherty after 26 minutes but Deery restored the two-goal advantage just seconds late with his special strike.
A third goal in as many minutes arrived with Morrow's 16-yard shot which Doyle failed to keep out and McGinn crashed in Derry's fifth from close-range in the 31st minute.
It was an amazing first 31 minutes with seven goals and the final effectively over as a contest.
Not surprisingly, the second half failed to match the first with the Candystripes content to keep possession and Wexford unable to mount a fightback.
Morrow, who was named man-of-the-match, sealed his hat-trick after 70 minutes when he was left unmarked to head in from 10 yards.
