Stephen Kenny's Derry were beaten by last year's champions
Derry City's hopes of securing European football next year suffered a blow when they were beaten at home by Drogheda in Friday's Eircom Premier League clash.
Eamon Zayed scored the only goal on 33 minutes after he bundled home following a fumble by keeper Gerard Doherty.
Niall McGinn was Derry's best performer throughout and he went close to putting Derry ahead in the first half while Mark Farren missed a half-chance.
Gareth McGlynn shaved the Drogheda crossbar late on with a 25-yard shot.
The win moves fourth-placed Drogheda to within five points of the Candystripes, who currently occupy the third place that would guarantee a Uefa Cup place.
Drogheda also have a game in hand on Stephen Kenny's side.
