Julian Ward scored the 87th minute winner which saw Lisburn Distillery go top of the league with maximum points. Andy Waterworth sidefooted home to give the Whites a 36th minute lead but Johnny Cowan fired the ball home from three yards out five minutes later.
Neal Gawley beat Phillip Matthews from 30 yards on 49 minutes but Gary Browne curled in a free-kick past Paul Rice on 70 minutes to bring the Whites level.
Ward netted from close range after a goalmouth scramble to seal the points.
Mark Cooling headed over for Distillery early in the game while for Glenavon, Eamonn Murray skimmed the crossbar with a shot.
Waterworth's opener came after Rice blocked a Peter McCann effort and Gary Browne provided the pass for the striker to finish.
Cowan found the roof of the net with a shot following Gerard McMahon's free-kick which was headed down by Gavin McDonnell.
A frantic second half saw the Whites come from behind to secure a crucial victory.
