Harry Fay's side have had miserable start to the Carnegie League |
Dungannon Swifts remain without a Carnegie Irish League point after this thumping by Glenavon at Stangmore Park. Richard Gibson's 10th-minute free-kick put the Lurgan Blues ahead and the visitors were 2-0 up on 23 minutes when Eamon Murray lashed the ball home.
Paul Carville hit Glenavon's third with a 47th-minute free-kick and Colm Kearney headed the fourth on 63.
Paul Baron's 70th-minute reply was little consolation for Dungannon who had Ryan McCluskey sent off late on.
McCluskey was given his marching orders in stoppage time after picking up his second yellow card following a rash tackle on Carville.
Dungannon could have taken the lead early on but Shea Campbell's initial shot was blocked by Paul Rice and the Swifts striker's rebound was then headed off the line by Barry Meehan.
Glenavon's opening goal came after Lewis Hamlin had been fouled on the edge of the box by John Curran with Gibson curling his free-kick round the wall.
Gibson soon had to depart the fray because of injury and he was replaced by Kearney.
Glenavon went 2-0 up in the 23rd minute when Murray hammered the ball home from the edge of the box after his team had broken quickly out of their own defence.
The game was effectively over two minutes into the second half when Carville struck Glenavon's third goal from another free-kick.
Kearney bravely headed the fourth after a Carville cross and while Baron pulled a goal back on 70 minutes, Glenavon had already done enough.
McCluskey's dismissal capped a dismal night for Harry Fay's struggling outfit.
