First half goals from Marc McCann and Aaron Baker earned Portadown a deserved 2-0 win over Coleraine in Saturday's league game at Shamrock Park. Coleraine goalkeeper Davy O'Hare was at fault for McCann's 25th minute opener although the visiting custodian went on to make some marvellous saves.
Aaron Baker struck Portadown's second goal in the 33rd minute.
Henry McStay also hit the Coleraine woodwork but Ports keeper David Miskelly denied Stephen Beatty.
McCann had an early chance for Portadown but he fired wide.
However, McCann did put the Ports ahead with a long-range shot which O'Hare should have dealt with.
Baker scored Portadown's second goal eight minutes later after good work by Gary Hamilton.
After McStay had struck the Coleraine woodwork, Stephen Carson had a half-chance for a Coleraine equaliser but he was denied by a last-ditch tackle.
As Coleraine continued to press, Beatty saw a great shot superbly saved by Miskelly.
However, Portadown finished the match the stronger and Baker had a shot brilliantly stopped by Davy O'Hare and the Coleraine goalkeeper made a great double-save to deny Gary Hamilton in the closing stages.
