Linfield striker Glenn Ferguson scored the only goal of the game |
The Blues have moved 17 points clear at the top of the Carnegie Premier League thanks to Glenn Ferguson's penalty winner at the Showgrounds. There were few chances in a poor first half but the game came to life when Ferguson converted on 72 minutes after a foul on Oran Kearney.
Bannsiders defender Kyle McVey should have levelled minutes later but headed over from six yards.
Kearney hit the crossbar in the dying seconds as Linfield claimed the points.
Linfield manager David jeffrey said he was pleased with his team's effort.
"It was a difficult pitch so there was not much opportunity for free-flowing football," he said.
"The players were told they would have to adapt to the conditions and they got stuck in.
"It was a battle. Although the margin of victory was slim, I felt we thoroughly deserved it.
"David O'Hare was a bit unfortunate with the penalty but Glenn put a lot of power behind it.
"Hopefully that it our penalty problems behind us. That is three in a row scored now."
