Linfield 1-1 Limavady United
Tommy Wright's Limavady side produced a great display
Limavady earned a thoroughly deserved midweek Irish Cup replay against Linfield by holding the Blues to a 1-1 draw in a great game at Windsor Park.

Kevin Ramsay put Limavady into the lead in the seventh minute but Linfield were on terms within a minute thanks to a Glenn Ferguson header.

Kevin Ramsay had the ball in the Linfield net in the 52nd minute but the effort was ruled out for handball.

Both teams had late chances but a draw was probably a fair result.

Limavady started without work-tied defender Liam Cooley although he should be available for the replay.

Ramsay produced a great turn and shot to put the visitors ahead in the seventh minute.

However, Linfield levelled within 60 seconds with Glenn Ferguson heading Stuart King's cross to the net.

Limavady goalkeeper Michael Doherty was fortunate to receive only a booking when he fouled Glenn Ferguson outside the penalty area after making a mess of an attempted clearance.

However, Doherty immediately redeemed himself by saving Darren Murphy's free-kick.

Limavady boss Tommy Wright was furious after Ramsay's 52nd minute effort was ruled out by referee Stephen Wetherall.

Nobody can say that we came here just looking for a draw

The referee appeared unsure of whether Ramsay had handled and there was a great deal of confusion before it was confirmed that the effort had been disallowed.

A minute later, Mark Picking had a great chance for Linfield but he blasted over the top.

Paul McAreavey then produced a marvellous run and chipped effort but Limavady goalkeeper Doherty got back to make a great save.

Doherty made another great save to deny Peter Thompson in the 82nd minute.

Glenn Ferguson was then just wide with another effort.

Both teams had further chances with Brendan Devenney heading off the Limavady line and substitute Ryan McIlmoyle missing a glorious opportunity for the Roesiders in the 88th minute.

Limavady boss Tommy Wright told the BBC that his players had told him that the referee had changed his mind over the disallowed goal after initially deciding that no foul had been committed.

"Stephen Wetherall had a very good game but I didn't think he was in the best position to decide whether it was a goal or not," said Wright.

The Limavady boss described the game as a "cracking cup tie".

"Nobody can say that we came here just looking for a draw.

"We were hurting after the way we played here in the league before Christmas but we've managed to salvage a bit of pride today."
