Glentoran romped into the last 16 of the Nationwide Irish Cup with a comfortable victory over a 10-man Lisburn Rangers side at the Oval. The current cup holders were 4-0 to the good at the break with Gavin Melaugh, Darren Lockhart, Michael Halliday and Shaun Holmes on target.
The junior side, who had goalkeeper Ross Preece sent off in the 13th minute, fought hard after the restart.
The Glens ended well with Chris Morgan netting and Melaugh grabbing a second.
Glens were just too polished for the Rangers and were quckly into their stride when Melaugh stabbed home the opener in the ninth minute after a goalmouth scramble.
Four minutes later came a harsh sending off when Preece was shown a straight red after he rushed out to stop a Glentoran through ball outside his area and ball appeared to make contact with his hand.
Glentoran then took control with three goals in the space of seven minutes.
First, Lockhart stroked a lovely 20-yard left-footed drive into the left-hand corner in the 27th minute.
Four minutes later Halliday tucked away the third and then Holmes made it four as Glentoran looked set for a big score.
However, the Rangers stuck manfully to their task and fought hard to keep Glentoran at bay.
Roy Coyle's side did awaken from their slumper twice late in the game with Morgan tucking away a chance in the 64th minute and Melaugh touching in his second a minute from time.
