Tommy McCallion has moved from Glentoran to Institute |
Institute have signed midfielder Tommy McCallion from Irish Premier League champions Glentoran. The 28-year-old former Cliftonville and Derry City player has joined the north-west club in a one-year deal.
McCallion was made available to other clubs earlier this month after spending two years with Glentoran.
"I want to make the most of the move and the manager Pascal Vaudequin has ambition and good plans for the club," McCallion told BBC Sport.
He added: "I had two really good seasons with Glentoran and from a personal point of view was successful so I was a bit surprised to be made available.
"Pascal and other members of the club seem quite adventurous in what they are going to do and I am just keen to get playing again."
McCallion will make his Institute debut in a friendly against Dergview at Drumahoe on Wednesday night.
His first competitive appearance is likely to come in Saturday's CIS Cup game against Coleraine at the Showgrounds.
"The signing of Tommy McCallion illustrates the ambition this club has and where we want to go," Institute chairman Billy Smallwoods said on the club website.
"Tommy has been there and done it both in the Irish League and the League of Ireland as well as in Europe and will provide vital experience both in the starting 11 and to the squad in general.
"The signing of Tommy McCallion is a massive boost and a top quality signing by Institute Football Club."
