Colin Malone's team won their first game in the top flight
Armagh City won a senior match at their first attempt when a late David Hawthorne goal gave them victory in a CIS Cup game at Drumahoe.

It was Armagh's first game in the top flight after promotion last season and they deserved to pick up the points.

Colin Malone's side had taken the lead midway through the second half when Anto Reilly was on target.

Stute equalised through Andrew Sproule in the 79th minute before Hawthorne's winner three minutes from time.

In the first half, Institute had the ball in the back of the net in the 19th minute but French signing Betrand Ketchanke had his effort was ruled out for a deliberate hand ball.

Armagh could had stolen into a first-half lead but David Deleaney rattled the crossbar with a spot kick in injury time after Rory Boyle was upended in the box.

The Orchard County boys took the lead in the 61st minute when Reilly was on the end of David Wards cross for his sides first goal in the big time.

Stute equalised in the 79th minute when Declan Devin shot was deflected to Sproule who danced passed two defenders before slotting home.

But Armagh struck the winning goal three minutes from the end when Hawthorne pounced to stroke home the ball after a poor clearing punch by goalkeeper Sullivan Jous.
