Derry City boss Kevin Mahon searching for a striker |
Derry City are poised to sign Scottish striker Eddie Annand.
Candystripes boss Kevin Mahon is to have talks with the Morton player this week and is hopeful of landing a players who could be an answer to his problems up front.
The Scottish striker won't be signed in time for Thursday's Eircom League clash against Cork City at the Brandywell but boss Kevin Mahon is hopeful of finalising the move shortly.
Annand, who formerly played for Sligo Rovers in the Eircom League, is a proven goalscorer with the Scottish Division Three champions.
''He watched our match against Finn Harps on Tuesday night, and we will be having talks on Wednesday,'' said Mahon.
''Hopefully we will come to some agreement.
Tough task
''He has been playing in Scotland for some time now and has apparently scored 150 goals in three seasons.
''He knows where the net is and hopefully we will be able to sign him.''
Derry will have a tough task in Thursday's game against Cork.
The Leesiders are second in the table whereas Derry remain dangerously near the bottom despite their improved form in the last two matches.
Derry fielded an understrength team in Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Finn Harps in the League Cup but Billy Cleary, Eddie McCallion, Ciaran Martyn and Mark McCrystal are expected to return the side on Thursday.
Liam Coyle could be named in the substitutes but Tommy McCallion remains unavailable.
