Coleraine go for Muir
Marty Quinn guided Coleraine to Irish Cup success last season
Marty Quinn looking to build on Irish Cup success

Coleraine boss Marty Quinn is poised to sign Crusaders defender Paul Muir.

Muir was released by the Seaview club along with goalkeeper John Connolly on Thursday, and Quinn is ready to pounce and add to his Irish Cup-winning squad.

The 27-year-old Muir was formerly with Ballymena United and during his four seasons with the Crues he made 133 appearances.

Connelly's release follows Crusaders plan to cut back on expense. The former Republic of Ireland under-21 star moved to Seaview at the tail-end of last season keeping eight clean sheets from 16 starts.

However, manager Alan Dornan, who signed H&W Welders Michael Dougherty earlier this week, said that the decision taken was purely for financial reasons.

''We were happy with his contribution, but the decision to release him is basically down to finance.

''I must stress that the player certainly was not a big earner, but when his travel expenses are taken into account, it puts things into a different perspective.''
