Roy McCreadie's side happy to take over from Linfield |
Omagh Town are ready to step into the breach if Linfield pull-out of the Inter-Toto Cup.
The Blues had forwarded their application earlier in the season along with a number of other Premiership sides, but are now having second thoughts.
Manager David Jeffrey is not exactly enamoured with a competition that runs during the summer months.
Uefa have left provisions for an Irish League club to participate, so if Linfield decide to drop out after a board meeting next Monday, Omagh will take up the challenge.
Town boss Roy McCreadie would welcome another crack at Europe.
''Our first experience was against Slovac side Rumasvko and it was enjoyable,'' he said.
''We lost 1-0 away and drew 2-2 at home. This year the first round is not terribly attractive against a team from Belarus.''
Jeffrey, meanwhile, has no intention of changing his seven-goal side for Saturday's penultimate Daily Mirror Premiership game at Coleraine.
''Providing there are no fitness problems, I will, more than likely, use the same squad that won 7-0 against Institute,'' said Jeffrey.
Champions Glentoran will receive the Irish League trophy after their game against Omagh Town.
Chris Walker will receive the Gibson Cup on Saturday |
Skipper Chris Walker, who missed the final throes of the league success through injury, is back to collect the Gibson Cup. Manager Roy Coyle has still doubts over Gary Smyth and Darren Lockhart, both of whom had stitches inserted following cuts to the eyes.
Omagh, meanwhile, will continue with a youthful-looking side for the Oval game.
The Tyrone side are still without Marty McCann and James Quigley so Michael Kerr, Noel Johnston and Richard Clarke remain in the squad.
Lisburn Distillery are believed to be chasing Institute skipper and full-back Graeme Philson.
Whites manager Paul Kirk is an admirer of the former West Ham player, but would not deny or confirm his interest.
Kirk will have Jim McCloskey, Tim Mouncey back from suspension for the game against Cliftonville at Solitude.
