The Swifts are now one point ahead of United with three matches remaining.

Dungannon played the final half hour with 10 men after having goalkeeper Niall Currie sent-off.

Currie was red carded for a foul on United striker Shea Campbell which also resulted in a penalty.

Defender Johnny Montgomery went into goals and saved Peter Withnell's spot-kick.

Earlier Dungannon had taken the lead through a 19th minute header from James Slater.

United then equalised through a close-range Campbell goal.

Ballymena edged ahead when Oran Kearney scored.

Then, following Montgomery's penalty save, Dungannon hit back with Slater's volley bringing the sides level and Shane Coney heading the winner.

  • In Friday's other First Division game, a 69th minute goal by Colin Beggs gave Bangor a 1-0 win at home to Armagh City.
