End of Sunday ban is proposed
Irish League action between Portadown and Coleraine
Irish League clubs are not allowed to play on Sundays

Irish League club Cliftonville have launched a campaign to get the ban on Sunday football scrapped.

The north Belfast club have tabled a motion to go before the Irish Football Association's annual meeting in May.

Cliftonville say clubs should have the choice of playing on Sundays if the opposing teams agree.

They also say that if intermediate and junior matches took place on Sundays, it could boost attendances at Irish League games on Saturdays.

Thousands of players and supporters are currently involved in junior football matches which take place at the same time as senior fixtures.

Attendances at Irish League matches have been falling for a number of years leading to financial problems for many senior clubs.
