| Friday, 18 October, 2002, 16:47 GMT 17:47 UK Hughes takes camp over friendly ![]() Wales are in demand after their success over Italy Wales manager Mark Hughes has poured cold water on talk of a friendly with Northern Ireland in February. His side face Euro 2004 qualifiers with Azerbaijan on November 20 and March 29, and he feels that a training camp for the free date in February would be more useful. "My own personal view is that I'd rather have a training session," Hughes told BBC Radio Wales.
"If a really big side came in and wanted a game we would consider it," he added. Hughes had to fight the FAW hard to take his squad to a training camp in La Manga at the end of last year, but the dividends have been clear to see. The Welsh coach revealed that he was only now coming down from cloud nine after a "wonderful evening" against Italy. The heightened media coverage has worried Hughes, but he is pleased with the professional reaction from his team. "Everyone needs to calm down - we haven't achieved anything yet," said the manager. "In our World Cup qualifying group we failed to record a win in two games against Armenia. "We have to make sure that doesn't happen against Azerbaijan."
