Leading 1-0 at the break through a Gavin Melaugh goal, late strikes by Lee McEvilly and Terry McFlynn earned success over Finland at Mourneview Park. It was a frentic finish to the game after Finland looked to have grabbed a draw when Petri Orivanen fired home three minuts from time. Melaugh had grabbed the opener on the stroke of half-time when his 25-yard shot took a deflection before lobbing over the head of goalkeeper Otto Fredrikson. Nothern Ireland had the better of the game, but their hearts sank with Orivanen's equaliser. However, McEvilly rifled home a 25-yard free-kick that left Fredrikson flat-footed. Just to make sure, McFlynn rounded off a fine evening's work by Roy Millar's side with the third goal at the death. | See also: 13 Feb 03 | Northern Ireland 10 Feb 03 | Northern Ireland 11 Oct 02 | Northern Ireland Top Northern Ireland stories now: Links to more Northern Ireland stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
