Owen Hargreaves is not fit to play for England
Liechtenstein v England

Live on BBC One, Five Live and this website
Owen Hargreaves has been ruled out of Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier against Liechtenstein.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has a sore back and could also miss Wednesday's match against Turkey at Sunderland.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is also without Sol Campbell in the centre of defence and is expected to pitch Gareth Southgate alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Eriksson said: "Owen has a back problem - he injured it in the practice on Thursday, and it is not good at all.

"We will decide late on Saturday if he comes back to England with us or not - whether he goes back to Munich.

"But all the other players are fit - I can pick from 23."

Eriksson has already decided on his starting 11 for a game England must win to keep alive realistic chances of beating Turkey to automatic qualification.

He added: "If we are lucky and good we will win two games and then the future can be very good.

"It's always easy to get motivated when you play Germany or Argentina but when you play less famous sides it is not easy.

"England come here and they want to get a good result because it will stay with them for a long time.

"Wherever we go they want to beat us because we are England and that is good.

"It is about time we started to perform and get good results, and score a few goals as well."

West Ham's David James is likely to get the nod to replace injured Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman.

Wayne Bridge is almost certain to replace the injured Ashley Cole at left-back with Kieron Dyer on the left of midfield and skipper David Beckham on the right.

Gary Neville is set to play at right-back with the team completed by Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard in midfield and Michael Owen and Emile Heskey up front.

England (probable): James, G Neville, Bridge, Ferdinand, Southgate, Beckham, Dyer, Gerrard, Scholes, Heskey, Owen.
