Danny Collins has not been named in a Wales squad since 2007
Stoke City defender Danny Collins, 29, says a "chat" with Wales manager John Toshack could pave the way for his return to the international fold.
And Collins hopes to be joined by club-mate Ryan Shawcross, 22, who is newly eligible for the land of his schooling after a recent Fifa ruling.
Collins says Stoke's Welsh boss Tony Pulis wants him to make a Wales return.
Said Collins: "The gaffer [Pulis] will maybe have a word with John about it and we'll see how it goes from there."
Defender Collins, who joined Stoke City for £2.75m from Sunderland in September, has been a Wales outcast after falling out with Toshack for a second time two years ago.
Manager and player first fell out in March 2006 when Collins felt he was snubbed by being kept on the Wales bench for a friendly with Paraguay.
That rift was healed when Toshack accepted an apology from Collins.
But year later, Collins ruled himself out of a September World Cup qualifier double-header against Germany and Slovakia, saying he needed to become fit in order to regain his place in the Sunderland first team.
Collins now says he would like add to the six caps - and told the BBC Sport Wales show: "If we have a chat we'd get things sorted I think.
"My last game is nearly two years ago so I can't remember how it was sort of left, but I don't know if John was waiting for me maybe to give him a call.
"I might have said 'I'm happy playing club football, concentrating on club football for now' and that sort of stuff.
"So I don't know, we'll get a way around it and we'll get it sorted."
If Collins is welcomed back into the Wales squad, he could be joined by his fellow Stoke defender Shawcross.

The highly-rated centre-back, a reported £9m Liverpool transfer target, attended the same north Wales school as Collins and is now eligible to play for Toshack's side under new eligibility rules.
A recent change means that players with five years of compulsory education in the specified country are now eligible to represent that nation.
St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman is another who qualifies under this rule.
And Collins said: "I certainly think it would be good if we could get Ryan on board as well because he's progressing as a good player.
"Ryan was asking me a few questions about it and obviously I was giving him a lot of positives about it."
