The Football Association's search for a successor to Sven-Goran Eriksson goes on - with no agreement yet on who will get the job. BBC Sport rounds up the latest news and speculation as FA chief executive Brian Barwick, international committee chairman Noel White, Premier League chairman Dave Richards and FA vice-chairman David Dein search for a manager.
25 APRIL:
Sir Trevor Brooking is reportedly unhappy at the prospect of Luiz Felipe Scolari or a foreign coach becoming the next England manager.
England's director of football development apparently believes Scolari's appointment would not help develop other English managers.
The Sun reports an FA insider revealing Brooking's concerns that Scolari taking over would be a snub on the quality of English managers available.
Meanwhile, The Daily Star cites worries about Scolari's desire to develop English coaching talent under his stewardship.
So, while others on the FA board seem to have been convinced of Scolari's credentials, Brooking appears to be against the move.
But, if the FA want the Brazilian, they may be forced into a U-turn over when they announce Eriksson's successor.
The FA want to unveil the new England manager before the 2006 World Cup but Scolari maintains he is concentrating on masterminding Portugal's challenge at the finals and does not want to discuss another job until after the tournament.
That could open the door for Steve McClaren or Sam Allardyce taking over.

There are no English managers who seem to have the necessary qualities. We should have got Hiddink - but now we should try to get Scolari. There is another alternative - persuade Sven to stay - the best England manager ever in my view!

The FA have really made a mess of it this time. It seemed as though they've painted themselves into a very tight corner with no way out. It would be hypocritical of the FA to expect Scolari to negotiate any deal before the World Cup.

Scolari is the man the FA should go for. The FA, however, seem to have completely made this selection proces a public one and that is not going to help Scolari as he is currently the Portugal coach.
