Allardyce is unhappy at Beckham's England job claim

Beckham said Sven-Goran Eriksson's successor should have "a certain amount of experience" and be able to handle Champions League and World Cup games.

Bolton boss Allardyce, who wants the job, has not managed at that level.

But he said: "So the England manager must have Champions League experience, at least on the back of what David Beckham says? I don't think so."

Allardyce insisted: "All that matters is that you are a great manager."

He said: "If that applies, you are right for the job.

"It's the same when people say you should have played international football to have the right credentials to manage a national team.

"Was Sven-Goran Eriksson an international footballer? No. Were Jose Mourinho or Rafael Benitez? No.

"Nobody seems to question their coaching qualifications."

Allardyce said: "Everyone knows I would love to have the opportunity to be interviewed for the England job. If that happens it would be fantastic.

"But until those decisions are made I have a duty to my club."

Beckham, asked directly if the next manager should have experience of Champions League football, said: "He has to have a certain amount of experience of course, that's part and parcel of being a top-flight manager, to be able to handle big games like in Champions League and World Cups. That decision will be made by the FA and not me."

Premier League chairman David Richards, Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick and international committee chairman Noel White - who will be instrumental in appointing the new boss - presented a list of candidates to a full meeting of the FA board on 27 February.
