Chief executive Barwick is set to lead the search for an England boss

FA chief executive Brian Barwick, international committee chairman Noel White and Premier League chairman Dave Richards will form the select group.

The trio will begin their discussions next week and will report to FA chairman Geoff Thompson at the next board meeting on 27 February.

Eriksson will step down as England boss after this summer's World Cup finals.

The FA said in a statement: "At an FA board meeting, discussions took place on the recruitment process for appointing the next England head coach.

"It was agreed at the meeting that chief executive Brian Barwick would meet international committee chairman Noel White and vice-chairman Dave Richards (also Premier League chairman) next week to commence this process."

The FA's director of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking, is expected to act as an adviser.

But there was no place on the panel for FA board member and Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, who had been a key figure in Eriksson's appointment five years ago.

The FA board meeting on Thursday was the first since Eriksson's departure was announced.

No individual candidates to replace the Swede were understood to be discussed at that meeting.

Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who is coaching PSV Eindhoven and the Australian national team, is thought to be a front-runner, along with former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce.
