FUNNIES

Italy's World Cup winners have adopted Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes as their unofficial anthem.

Francesco Totti, who is a big fan of the group, sung the top 10 hit after Italy's dramatic penalty shoot-out win over France, substituting the words to say "Siamo I Campioni Del Mondo" - which translates as "We Are The Champions Of The World".

'A source close to the band' said: "There were 500,000 people singing the riff in the streets. It's become Italy's second national anthem." (The Sun)

Marco Materazzi broke off from defending his role in Zinedine Zidane's sending off to join the Rolling Stones on stage during a gig in Milan. Materazzi and team-mate Alessandro Del Piero received a rapturous welcome from the 70,000 fans.

And just to prove football really is the new rock 'n' roll, Del Piero's close pal Noel Gallagher from Oasis - who was described as 'Italy's lucky mascot' for the final - treated the team to an acoustic rendition of Don't Look Back In Anger after the match.
